Battle near the Water's Edge

Comments - Terrific scene of a battle taking place along a rocky shore overlooking the water. In the center, a warrior grips an enemy in a head lock under his arm as he tosses another attacker over his shoulder to join a third man tumbling head over heels in mid-air. At bottom center, a samurai threatens a rival with a sword to his neck, holding him down along a craggy ledge. At right, a general charges ahead on a black horse, clashing weapons with an enemy rider. Behind them, the battle continues on the shore beneath pine trees. The stone walls of a castle rise in the distance at left. A fantastic image with wonderful color and detail.

Artist - Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880)

Image Size - 29" x 14 3/8"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three separate panels. Some rubbing and soiling in subject as shown. A couple creases. Some small holes and losses repaired from reverse. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
