Comments - Terrific kabuki scene of passengers riding in a ferry in winter. In the center, two men stand under an umbrella, one resting his hand atop his friend's shoulder. Bundled up against the cold weather with scarves around their heads, coats over their kimono, and leggings, the pair scowls at the beauties waiting behind them. One woman stares back at them with a dismayed expression, her mouth slightly agape, while her companion looks out over the river. A small boat can be seen on the water at left, with birds bobbing on the undulating current, and travelers make their way along the embankment under the falling snow. Wonderfully expressive figures in an attractively detailed winter setting.
