Daybreak: Bando Shuka I as Shiranui Daijin, 1855 - Terrific kabuki design of a Bando Shuka I as the young samurai Shiranui Daijin reading a long letter by the light of the full moon glowing overhead. He leans back against a palanquin, smiling to himself as he stretches the paper out. Three geese fly past the moon in the early morning hours, and a few tall grasses frame the lightening sky. Nicely detailed with embossing in the letter and white kimono collar. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection. An attractive subject with beautiful shading and wood grain impression in the sky.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 1/2"

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Stitching holes along right edge from previous folio binding, a few small holes, repaired, blends well. Slight soiling, slight rubbing near edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
