Snow Falling at Sanjo, 1862 - Lovely scene of snow falling in Kyoto, with a beautiful view of Sanjo Bridge over the Kamo River. At left, a beauty and her young attendant climb the stairs carrying a stack of books. At right, a young nobleman huddles under a kotatsu warmer covered with a quilt, smiling happily at his companions. The beauty in the center gestures at the winter landscape outside, wearing a blue kimono patterned with chrysanthemum blossoms. Wonderful detail in the architectural setting and furnishings, with a niche at right holding three hanging scrolls above an incense burner on a red lacquer table. A very attractive subject.
