Known primarily for his landscapes, these prints represent a departure from Hiroshige's traditional subject matter. These terrific designs combine lively figures with handsome settings, including interiors and landscapes. Beautifully detailed with rich color and soft shading, images from this series are increasingly difficult to come by and highly collectible. A great choice for a Hiroshige enthusiast or a collector interested in classic Japanese tales.
Oiso-no-Maihime Letting the Soga Brothers Enter the Hunting Lodge - Handsome scene of the beauty Oiso-no-Maihime allowing the Soga Brothers to enter Suketsune's hunting lodge in their quest to kill him and avenge their father's death. She stands next to the open doorway, urging them to remain quiet as she looks over her shoulder, cautiously holding her sleeve to her mouth. One of the brothers crouches in the entrance, the other peering around the sliding panel, ready to spring into action and achieve their final goal. Suketsune's bed is concealed behind the mosquito netting and folding screen at left. A great image from this terrific series, with fine architectural detail in the setting.
