Bando Takesaburo I as Ishido Unemenosuke, 1851

Comments - Attractive kabuki portrait of Bando Takesaburo I as Ishido Unemenosuke in the play "Higashiyama Sakura-zoshi." He holds a striped pole in his outstretched hand, lifting the edge of his hakama pants in the other and frowning unhappily as he looks over his shoulder. Several kimono are draped over a black lacquer stand at right, and a folding screen patterned with grasses fills the background. A pair of buckets for collecting seawater for processing into salt rest on the floor at left, alongside some cherry blossoms. A nicely detailed subject with an expressive figure.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 10 1/8" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. A few small holes, repaired, blends well. Please see photos for details. Slight creasing and soiling. Good overall.
