Ichimura Kakitsu as Hayano Kampei, 1863

Comments - Fine full-length portrait of Ichimura Kakitsu as Hayano Kampei, a young retainer of Lord Hangan in the classic play "Kanadehon Chushingura." He looks over his shoulder with grimace as he grips his sword. The young warrior wears a purple kimono, the crossed hawk feather crest of Lord Hangan appearing in white on the shoulders and sleeves. He stands barefoot, his hair a bit disheveled with a few loose strands framing his face and his topknot having slid to the side of his head. Nice fine line work in the hair and face with soft shading in the background.

Artist - Kunisada II (1823 - 1880)

Image Size - 9 3/4" x 14" + margins as shown.

Condition - With excellent color and detail. A crease at left edge. A few small holes repaired from reverse. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
