Series; A Collected Mirror of Great Achievements, 1877

A Collected Mirror of Great Achievements - Terrific image from a rarely seen Yoshitoshi series called "Mirror of Great Achievements" (Mitate komyo kagami), published in 1877. Each chuban-sized print depicts the achievements or heroic actions of young warriors or children. These handsomely detailed images range from the Golden Boy Kintaro acting as referee for an animal's wrestling match to the young samurai Saito Toshimitsu struggling with an enemy as they sink under water. Drawn with fine detail and vibrantly colored, these great designs bring to life events from history and legend.

Image Size - 8" x 6" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail. A few creases in subject. Some minor thinning or small paper remnants at edges. Some light soiling and minor ink offsetting in subject as shown. A loss at left edge repaired from reverse. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
