Leaving His Family, 1856

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a man preparing to leave his family. He stands beside the doorway at left, a woven hat in hand, gesturing to his wife. She kneels on the floor beside a low folding screen, a child sleeping on the floor behind it. She looks up at him with an anxious smile, tugging at a red sash tied over her shoulder, a towel in her outstretched hand. A handsome design with a nicely detailed interior setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 19 1/8" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Two panels, not attached at the seams. Vertical fold near left edge, now flattened. A few small wormholes, repaired, blends well. Thinning along fold line, slight soiling, rubbing along right edge of right panel. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
