Original Meiji era Japanese Woodblock Print
Meiji Procession, 1898

Comments - Interesting triptych depicting a procession in 1898 passing through a gate at top center and making its way along the streets. Men wearing white robes and black court caps carry fluttering banners as soldiers on horseback watch at attention in the foreground. At left, a group of standing troops bow their heads respectfully, with court ladies behind them wearing white kimono tucked into red hakama pants. A nicely detailed subject.
