Original Meiji era Japanese Woodblock Print
Meiji Emperor's Funeral Procession, 1912

Comments - Handsome illustration of the funeral procession of the Meiji Emperor in 1912. Shinto priests in pale blue robes and tall black caps walk alongside military officers in dress uniforms, their chests covered with ribbons and medals. An elegant royal cart drawn by oxen carries the emperor's body, with more officers, nobles, and priests stretching out ahead and behind. A wonderfully detailed illustration of this historic event. Detailed with fine line work and delicate embossing in the body of the cart. A great choice for a student of Meiji era history.
