Series; Buyu Kumiuchi Zukushi, 1862

Two Warriors Grappling - Dramatic scene of two warriors locked in hand-to-hand combat, grappling alongside flooded rice fields. The samurai at right glares into his opponent's face, his eyes bulging. His enemy stares back down at him as the pair wrestle with each other, trying to gain the upper hand. The fellow at left wears a sashimono or personal standard attached to his back, a red, white, and blue pennant fluttering above his head against the dark night sky. A great image with wonderful detail in the armor and expressions, and a handsome landscape setting.

Artist - Yoshikazu (active circa 1850 - 1870)

Image Size - 8 3/4" x 14 1/8"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Some toning and staining in subject as shown. Some rubbing and soiling at edges. A number of small holes and losses repaired from reverse. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
