Sinking a Chinese Ship, 1894

Comments - Incredible image depiction of a Japanese warship sinking a Chinese vessel during a naval battle in the Sino-Japanese War. The Chinese ship sinks beneath the waves, shells exploding in bursts of orange light and clouds of smoke as flames billow high into the evening sky. Frightened sailors crowd the bow, some clinging to a flagpole as other slip fall over the sides to join their compatriots bobbing in the sea below. A dramatic image with a bold composition and lively color.
