Clearing after a Sudden Shower, 1936

Toraji Ishikawa - Born in Kochi, Toraji Ishikawa earned fame for his Western-style paintings. He created a number of woodblock prints, most notably a 1934 shin hanga series titled "Ten Nudes." His lively and colorful designs are prized by modern collectors.

Comments - Rare two piece set of a full-color woodblock print with a separate black key block impression. Terrific scene of boats after a rain shower, with sailors adjusting their sails in preparation for going out on the water. The vibrant colors of the sails and are reflected in the bright blue of the sea, creating a kaleidoscope of lively shades. A striking modern design that would make a fantastic framed display. Paper watermarked with "Ishikawa Toraji" in Japanese, signed Ishikawa in ink in lower right corner. The key block is signed with a red artist's seal at lower right. An unusual opportunity to purchase both the color print and an accompanying key block impression.
