Argument at a Waterwheel

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of men arguing in front of a waterwheel, the warrior at left gripping his sword with both hands as he points it at his adversary. His enemy frowns back at him angrily, holding his own weapon upright against his shoulder. A beauty crouching between them looks up suspiciously out of the corners of her eyes, one hand resting on the hilt of a sword. The fellow at right lifts a red paper lantern aloft, staring over his shoulder with a grimace. He carries a pole under his arm, the sleeves of his blue tie-dyed under robe tied back with a narrow rope. Great expressive figures set against a deep red background, nicely detailed with fine line work in the hair.
