Series; Scenes of Tokyo, Twenty-four Views

Kikyomon, 1935 - Lovely view of the Kikyomon or Kikyo gate of the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. The tower is reflected in the gently shimmering water of the moat below. Noel Nouet was a French artist and poet who spent much of his life in Japan, initially working as a French teacher. He is known for his beautiful and intricately detailed views of famous places in Tokyo, originally drawn in pen and ink. This beautiful design captures the look and feel of an ink drawing, with a wonderful lively quality to the fine line work. An attractive, romantic scene rendered in a deep monochromatic blue.
