Original Meiji era Japanese Woodblock Print
Three Kabuki Scenes

Comments - Interesting woodblock print with three scenes from kabuki plays. The bottom image features characters from the play "Sukeroku," with the young street knight Sukeroku confronting the elderly warrior Ikyu. Both men are in love with the beautiful courtesan Agemaki, who watches at left. At top right, a nobleman in a black robe watches a beauty lifting a folding fan near her face. The black robe is beautifully detailed with a subtle burnished scroll pattern. A nicely detailed design, with embossing in Ikyu's white hair and beard and the white kimono collars.

Artist - Meiji era artist (unsigned)

Image Size - 9 3/8" x 13 3/8" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Some rubbing and soiling at edges. Some light ink staining. A few small holes repaired from reverse. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
