The Tsukiji Hotel, Tokyo

Comments - Handsome view of the impressive modern Tsukiji Hotel in Tokyo. The Meiji Government constructed the Tsukiji Hotel in 1868 to house foreign visitors, covering it with terra cotta tiles in an effort to fireproof it, but it nevertheless burned down in 1872. The two story structure is surrounded by a fenced courtyard, the building topped with a cupola and weather vane, with flags of different nations, fluttering overhead. The street outside the arched front entrance bustles with activity as pedestrians share the roadway with a large horse-drawn carriage at left. Cherry trees bloom inside the courtyard, and ships can be seen in the harbor beyond. A fine historic image with wonderful detail.

Artist - Yoshifuji (1828 - 1889)

Image Size - 28 1/2" x 14 1/8"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three separate panels. Some light toning at edges as shown. A few small holes repaired from reverse. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
