Series; A Collection of Beautiful Tales of Valor (Seishin Bidan), 1894 - 1895

A Collection of Beautiful Tales of Valor - Published in 1894 - 1895 during the Sino-Japanese War, Gekko's handsome series "A Collection of Beautiful Tales of Valor" presents the heroic actions of men involved in this historic conflict. Each design focuses on one or more heroes, accompanied by a text panel in both Japanese and English. Images range from dramatic battle scenes and acts of espionage to quieter moment such as the transfer of command or a soldier paying respects at his brother's gravesite. Some include touches of burnishing or embossing, or a dusting of mica.
