Procession of the Emperor, 1868

Comments - Handsome triptych depicting a procession of the Meiji Emperor arriving at a palace. The emperor rides in an elegant palanquin topped with a golden phoenix, shielded from the public by reed blinds, accompanied by noblemen in court dress. The courtyard of the palace is lined with bowing visitors and draperies decorated with the Meiji chrysanthemum crest. The procession moves up the steps into a large building at right as cranes fly overhead, a lucky sign. A terrific image with wonderful color and detail, and soft shading in the clouds and sky.

Artist - Kuniteru II (1829 - 1874)

Image Size - 29 1/4" x 14 1/8" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three separate panels. Some light toning and soiling at edges. Some light offsetting in subject as shown. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
