The Customs and Manners of Women, ca. 1890's
Fujin Fuzoku Zukushi

Original Gekko Prints - We are excited to offer this fantastic collection of original Gekko prints from his series "The Customs and Manners of Women". Published in the 1890's, these prints are a window into the traditional daily lives of women in Japan. The women in this series can be seen engaged in all manner of activities - enjoying a garden, arranging flowers, practicing an instrument, and serving tea. Produced in the Meiji era, when westernization was sweeping Japan, these prints idealize the traditional lifestyles of women in Japan that were all but disappearing at the time. Gekko's prints are a unique union of traditional elements and a modern artistic sensibility. These fine portraits have a distinct sense of personality and the beautiful settings reflect the traditional landscape and architecture during his time. Printed in soft colors against light backgrounds, Gekko's prints make beautiful displays. Either singly or in groups, these unique original Japanese antiques are treasures to be enjoyed for a lifetime.
