Armor Pulling Scene from the Soga Brothers, Kusazuribiki

Comments - A terrific Kiyonobu kabuki illustration of the famous armor pulling scene (kusazuribiki ) from the tale of the Soga Brothers. Thinking that his older brother Juro is in danger, the hot-tempered Goro attempts to rush off to assist him. His friend, the strong man Asahina, tries to stop him by tugging on his armor. Goro waves his riding crop above his head, his face contorted with rage as Asahina tumbles to the ground, still holding the armor plate. A bold design heightened by a limited color palette of orange, black, and golden yellow.

Artist - Kiyonobu (1663 - 1729)

Image Size - 20 1/8" x 12 3/4"
