Series; Ten Famous Excellencies of Tametomo, 1848 - 1851

Tametomo with a Caged Crane - Intriguing image from the life of the famous 12th century warrior Minamoto Tametomo, who is seen here with a caged crane on his back. According to legend, the crane guided him around the Ryukyu Islands on his back. He stands on the shore with waves lapping behind him, looking over his shoulder warily, clutching the rope of the basket tied over his shoulders. He wears a blue kimono trimmed with a gray print, tucked into brown hakama pants over his armor. Beautifully detailed with fine line work in the hair and delicate embossing in the crane's feathers.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 9 3/4" x 14 3/8"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Some rubbing and soiling at edges. A couple small holes repaired from reverse. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
