Warrior in an Arena, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Interesting kabuki image of a warrior in an arena during a fight. He grips a sword upright with both hands, grimacing angrily as his opponent thrusts a blade at him. He wears a blue robe over a suit of armor trimmed with fringe. Another man watches at right, his hands behind his back and his feet spread widely apart. A tall marker behind him is covered with writing, and a bamboo fence separates the men from a large crowd. Nicely detailed.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/2" x 10" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Faint toning, slight soiling and creasing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
