Battle of Dan-no-ura, 1858

Comments - Fantastic triptych of Yoshitsune executing his legendary "eight boat leap" at the Battle of Dan-no-ura in 1185, crouching as he flies through the air, a naginata in hand. In the right panel his pursuer Noritsune gestures angrily from the deck of a Taira boat, one foot atop a fallen comrade. The magnificent Imperial barge appears in the center, with the young Emperor Antoko perched on his grandmother's shoulder. An incredible image, full of energy and excitement, with terrific detail and attractive color. A great depiction of this famous battle.

Artist - Kunitsuna II (1829 - 1874)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 29" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Three panels, not attached at the seams. A few wormholes and small holes, small losses along edges, repaired, blends well. Creasing and soiling, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
