Bewitched by a Fox, 1854

Comments - Terrific kabuki scene of a man overcome by a magic white fox in a field. He stumbles to the ground at left, rubbing his head with a worried expression as the fox rises behind him. At right, a samurai holds a poem slip wrapped in a leaf in his outstretched hand, staring up at the crescent moon glowing in the night sky. He scowls unhappily as supernatural red foxfires dance among the tall autumn grasses and flowers. An intriguing subject from folklore with a beautifully detailed setting and fine bokashi shading in the background.

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 19 3/8"
