Samurai and Nobleman, 1857

Comments - Great kabuki scene of two men in an interior, the nobleman at right glaring unhappily down at his companion. He wears a voluminous black robe with a red dragon sash over a white kimono tucked into hakama pants and armor, a wooden stick in one hand. The samurai frowns back at him, holding a lacquer tray of food in his outstretched hand. His plum colored kamishimo is patterned with gourds, vines, and leaves, worn over a blue kimono. A fine reed blind hangs overhead above a screen with a design of a blossoming plum tree covered with white flowers and tiny pink buds. A handsome design, nicely colored and detailed with embossing in the white kimono.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 19 1/4" x 14 1/2"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Two separate panels. Some light soiling at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
