Primula by Tanigami Konan (1879 - 1928)

Original Tanigami Konan (1879 - 1928) Japanese Woodblock Print
Primula

Series; Album of Western Plants and Flowers, 1917

Primula - Lovely, original 1917 woodblock print from Konan's "Album of Western Plants and Flowers" series. Originally released as a five-volume set, these beautiful designs illustrate the exotic flora of the Western world, with lush blossoms and colorful foliage from the four seasons. Carefully observed and beautifully drawn with delicate line work, these attractive images are enlivened with a range of color from soft pastels to rich jewel tones. Although the plants are Western, the artistic treatment is distinctly Japanese, with a wonderful sense of asymmetrical balance and a fine contrast between flowers and leaves. We've spotted these prints offered elsewhere online for hundreds more! A terrific choice to collect or display, either singly or in groups.
