Preparing to Draw a Sword, 1853 by Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Preparing to Draw a Sword, 1853

Comments - Interesting kabuki portrait of a footman preparing to draw his sword. He leans forward with a frown, his lips tightly closed, one hand resting on the hilt of his weapon. He wears a blue and brown kimono with a striped collar over a red under robe trimmed with fringe, his bare feet spread firmly apart. A handsome composition with simulated wood grain in the sliding panels behind the figure.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)
Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 7/8" + margins as shown
Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Horizontal and vertical folds, now flattened. A few small holes and thinning spots, repaired, blends well. Slight soiling and offsetting. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
