Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Preparing to Draw a Sword, 1853
Comments - Interesting kabuki portrait of a footman preparing to draw his sword. He leans forward with a frown, his lips tightly closed, one hand resting on the hilt of his weapon. He wears a blue and brown kimono with a striped collar over a red under robe trimmed with fringe, his bare feet spread firmly apart. A handsome composition with simulated wood grain in the sliding panels behind the figure.
