Series; Twelve Kabuki Plays, 1952
Emperor Go-Daigo - Terrific scene from the kabuki play "Nawa Nagatoshi," which tells the story of the escape of the exiled Emperor Go-Daigo from Oki Island by fishing boat. He was assisted by his loyal retainer, Nawa Nagatoshi, who is shown here kneeling respectfully on the shore, the emperor standing in the small boat behind him. The warrior's bow rests on the sand nearby, and a quiver of arrows is visible at his back. A handsome design with beautiful detail in the armor and soft shading in the water and sky.
