Samurai with an Axe, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Dramatic double portrait of two samurai armored and ready for battle. The warrior at right grips an enormous axe with both hands. His battle helmet is topped with a fantastic coiled snake, its tongue flickering out of its open mouth. The other samurai glares at him with mouth open, resting on one knee and holding a spear. A personal standard can be seen above his back, the red tassels fluttering in the breeze. A fine design with wonderful detail in the armor and weapons. A nice choice for a samurai enthusiast.

Artist - Sadahide (1807 - 1873)

Image Size - 9 7/8" x 14 1/2"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. A number of small wormholes and losses repaired from reverse. Slight toning as shown. A couple light wrinkles. Some minor soiling at edges. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
