Wakashu and Hama Yumi

Takamizawa Reprints - We are excited to offer a fantastic group of Harunobu masterworks reprinted by the venerable Takamizawa publisher. Takamizawa was known as one of the finest reprint publishers of the 20th century and produced some of the highest quality ukiyo-e woodblock reprints of all time. All prints bear the red "Takamizawa Print" seal on the reverse attesting to the Takamizawa publication of these prints.

Comments - A classic Harunobu print depicting a young boy selling bows called "hama yumi" on New Year's Day. These small versions of bows were thought to bring good luck and protect against evil forces. The figure beside him is a wakashu or young adolescent boy, who appears very feminine in dress and manner. An attractive design with the stone wall providing a handsome backdrop for the beautifully drawn characters.

Artist - Harunobu (1724 - 1770)
