Uedo Mokuhanga printing

Uedo Mokuhanga printing - This print is from a special edition printing of shin-hanga landscape masterworks from the artists Hasui and Koitsu printed by the publisher Uedo Mokuhanga. In the early 1960s Uedo Mokuhanga re-released a set of twenty-seven famous shin-hanga landscape prints. These beautiful designs were printed from the original blocks and are a nice opportunity to collect some of the most stunning landscapes of the shin-hanga period.

Comments - Lovely winter scene of two women in traditional kimono crossing a snow-covered bridge over the Edo River. Snow gently falls through the gray evening sky, coating the willow tree that frames the view. Beautiful handling of the shading on the tree, which creates a real sense of snow piled up along the branches and trunk. A fantastic Hasui snow image.

Artist - Kawase Hasui (1883 - 1957)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 1/8" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Slight paper remnants on reverse at right corners from previous folio mounting. A few small creases at edges. Please see photos for details. Very nice overall.
